THE ARTIST

For Swedish artist, songwriter and producer Mattias Tell, music has been in his heart for as far back as he can remember. Growing up immersed in all genres of music, his musical instincts became apparent early on. Learning guitar at a young age opened the door to a wider curiosity, leading him to explore multiple instruments and develop a deep understanding of songwriting and composition.

Mattias’ talents took him to study Classical Guitar at the
Swedish Academy of Music at a very young age. Restless within the confines of formal training, he followed his instincts toward the rock world, a pull that eventually led him away from his studies and toward releasing his Swedish-language solo debut “Äntligen” under his own name in 2008.

Rather than remaining in the spotlight, Mattias gradually stepped away from the center of the pop industry, choosing distance and focus over visibility. Working in relative isolation, he devoted himself to songwriting and production, allowing the work to travel further than he did. During this period, he wrote, produced and toured with artists such as Timo Räisänen, shaped the solo debut of Henrik Berggren in 2016, and later wrote and produced with Jay Smith, helping his move into a more country-leaning sound.

With a one-of-a-kind sound, Mattias’ eclectic approach to songwriting and production sets him apart from the rest. After years of shaping music from the margins, he has now returned fully to where he feels most at home — stepping forward once again as an artist under his own name. Alongside his own releases, he also runs the independent label Kode Records in collaboration with Swedish comedian and artist Marcus Berggren.

Mattias approaches songwriting like a painting, starting with a blank canvas and a few colors, letting the rest take shape along the way.
